Activation Keys

By default, Accenter uses the 'ALT' key to activate the symbol groups. This behavior can be changed, if you prefer to use another key. Select 'Activate on...' from the 'Edit' menu. The following dialog will appear:

Your key choices are:

ALT (default choice)
CTL (control key)
CTL+ALT (combination of CTL and ALT together)

Which activation key you use is a matter of personal preference. When deciding which key to use, consider the following:

If you use key combinations like ALT-E to access the menus, you may not want to use 'ALT' as the activation key, since it will bypass some of the menus.
If you use menu shortcut keys like CTL-C for copy and CTL-P for print, you may not want to use 'CTL' as the activation key, since it will bypass some of these shortcuts.
If you use both ALT and CTL keystroke combinations regularly, you may want to set CTL+ALT as your activation key. This is slightly more awkward, but it doesn't hurt try. If you don't like it you can always set it back to ALT or CTL.

NOTE: Like the key customizations, this feature is stored in a file which is based on your Windows login. This allows other users to have different settings. Your user name appears in brackets at the top of the dialog. If you entered no user name when you logged onto Windows, this will appear as [default].
