I haven't tried to make it pass
This question is not from me - it is from my smart-alec older brother. But he does raise a good question. In my previous Bobby post I said:
Quote:
| Even if you don't want to take the time to make your site fully compliant, using Bobby and studying the results will help you get a much better idea of the problems disabled persons may have trying to access your site. At the very least, you should try to take care of the most glaring problems. |
And that is exactly how I use Bobby. I've never tried to make my site fully compliant.
Here's an example of why. Bobby requires that every image on your site have "ALT tags" (alternate text describing the image). However, often I will have images which serve no purpose other than as "placeholders", giving shape to the layout of the page. And taking time to go through and give descriptive text to all of these images does not improve the readability for disabled viewers - in fact, it very well might decrease readability.
So, like I said, I just use Bobby to get a "general" idea of the things I need to do to my sites, and the reasons for them. In other words, I think this is a case where understanding the spirit of the law is far more important than the letter of the law.
