Virtu Software owner Douglas Twitchell has had a life-long interest in the fields of education and software development. For several years in the early nineties, Doug worked in education as a teacher assistant, a long term substitute, and a high school math teacher. Doug taught in the fields of Science, English, and Mathematics.
In 1994, he made a career move from education to his other area of interest and expertise: software development. Between 1994 and 1999, he worked primarily as an contractor, developing custom applications for corporations around the state of Maine.
In the year 2000, Doug began exploring the possibility of combining his interests by developing desktop applications for schools. Within the next two years, he was also developing web applications for corporate, educational, and non-profit organizations.
Now, after many years of work in the technology field, Doug is back in the classroom part-time, teaching math and science to high school students at Oxford Hills Christian Academy, but he continues his work in technology when he is not teaching.
